Ready to Launch

There is something bright and nameless in starting a new journey. I have found it in an accidental writing career, in breakthroughs with new publications, and again, right now, in launching this website as a repository and advertisement for all the work I do.

So often we make choices about who we want to be without even recognizing it. We stay behind to help friends and become family; we set out on errands and arrive at change; we take a chance and find transformation. So it has been with @GothamGirlBlue, a little screen name I came up with to follow along pseudonymously with Scandal episodes (yes, really) and ended up writing scathing commentary on American politics.

Add some social upheaval, the worst president in American history, a (not) surprising amount of historical ignorance from the punditocracy, and voila: a new, Black woman pundit was born.

My passion for politics has been lifelong, in that I cannot remember ever having life before it. I did my first door-to-door canvassing at 3; I wrote my first story about segregation at 7; I researched the 16th St Baptist Church Bombing at 10. Born in 1988, I even have the convenience of tracking major birthdays with the presidential election cycle. It is who I am, and yet it is not ever who I imagined being.

That is the nature of life though: to bring us where we need to be, even unexpectedly. And so I set out these thoughts and this website, knowing that I have all the deliberate intentions to start a journey, and accepting that I must let it take me where needs be.

I’m just happy and proud to have you along with me.

Let’s go!
